Shingles is a blistering and extremely painful rash that can occur suddenly and last several weeks or months.
For many people, the pain from shingles dissipates as the rash fades, but for some, discomfort from shingles can last for months or even years.

Shingles pain and discomfort can:

  • be very painful

  • make everyday movements and activities very painful

  • interrupt sleep and sleeping patterns

  • cause anxiety and prolonged mental stress

The nerve pain is called postherpetic neuralgia (PHN). For some people with PHN, even mild physical contact e.g. brushing against something or clothing can cause severe pain.

ZOSTAVAX® and SHINGRIX® are the only vaccines clinically proven to help prevent shingles in individuals 50 years of age or older.

ZOSTAVAX® and SHINGRIX® do not protect everyone,  some people who get vaccinated may still suffer from shingles. If you have been vaccinated and you develop shingles, ZOSTAVAX® and SHINGRIX® can mitigate the length and severity of pain.

SHINGRIX® is an adjuvant-containing inactivated vaccine that has a better efficacy profile against shingles than ZOSTAVAX®. However, it may not be the best choice for you. Please talk to your pharmacist to determine which product is the best for you.
